What was Captain America's worst decision?

A Marvel aficionado, but always a DC fan

33w ago

The worst ever decision from Steve would have to be the time, when he chose to be the Nomad.

Wikipedia Description-

In Captain America #180 (December 1974) Rogers becomes disillusioned with the U.S. government when he discovers that a high ranking government official (heavily hinted to be the then President of the United States Richard Nixon) is the leader of the terrorist organization known as the Secret Empire.

Rogers then decides to abandon his Captain America identity, feeling that he cannot continue to serve America after this latest discovery has shattered his faith in the nation's status. However, a confrontation with Hawkeye (disguised as the Golden Archer) forces Rogers to realize that he cannot abandon a life of heroism, and he subsequently takes on the name "Nomad" (as it means "man without a country") adopting a new dark blue and yellow uniform with no patriotic markings on it at all.

This was something that we’d like to forget.

ETA to add SPOILER FOR CIVIL WAR MOVIE:

IMHO, try to save Bucky in a high speed chase scene in the movie. He endangers literally thousands of people in order to save one person. There is no justification for that no matter who he is. But it proves that he is still human, with all his biases. And it also proves Stark's side has a good point, a very good point that is proven by Captain's action. If Stark and Black Widow have come up with this example instead of bul* Sokovia and NY, maybe more people from Cap sides will switch side.  Most of them only stay out of loyalty to Cap anyway (or doesn't want to be restricted), not really because they believe in his ideal.

Another bad decision: call out Hawkeye to fight for him knowing he has a wife and four kids depending on him. If that is not selfishness, I don't know what is.

To clarify, I'm actually emotionally on Team Captain on this (no, not rationally). But he is a flawed human being and should be treated as such, super power or no.

Captain America always makes the best decisions. Even in the comic and cinematic Civil War events, his argument is far more emotional and compelling than the other. By doing what is best for America as an example and nation, and world security, Captain America rarely chooses to make any morally wrong decisions.

The big problem is that he uses the Super Serum to physically be Captain America. (In the Ultimate Universe, he goes through a six month period of steroids.)

Steve Rogers volunteers for the experiment and receives reflexes, strength, and the ability to be better at the battlefield.

For the same reasons, Hitler and the Nazis used testosterone derivatives, but the only difference was that they went psycho.

Captain America shouldn't be any different. He should feel guilty for going against what made him in the first place in one particular comic:

By far Captain America’s worst decision was to try and star in a 1980s Broadway musical.

Which is why it ranks atop the list of the 15 Biggest WTF Things Captain America Has Ever Done.

Now the MCU First Avenger movie showed Steve Rogers can entertain with the best of them onstage. There’s no doubt about that.

But singing, dancing and being a pedophile (more on that in a moment) is a whole different story.

Captain America - The Musical was conceived in 1985 for a whopping $ 4 million, which was a redunkulous amount to be spent on Broadway in those days. News of the play first broke in the New York Times outlining the plot:

The superhero will not, in fact, be particularly super when the curtain goes up. The book by Mel Mandel and Norman Sachs (who are also responsible for music and lyrics) has Captain A. going through a mid-life crisis. Fortunately, the action speeds up - his girlfriend, a candidate for President, is captured by terrorists and held hostage at the Lincoln Memorial.

BRAVO!

If you thought Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark was awful, just imagine what it would have been like watching Captain America sing and dance his way through a mid-life crisis.

Equal parts horrendous and wonderful, it sounds like this musical would have been a sight to see to say the least.

Unfortunately it never happened for reasons no one knows. That NY Times article above and the ad below are pretty much all that exist of the once great spectacle that was to be Captain America - The Musical.

Which is probably a really good thing considering the producer’s marketing strategy, which is what made this truly Captain America’s worst decision.

Apparently one of the stars of the show was going to be a young girl and so Marvel in their infinite wisdom decided to run ads in their comics for an open casting call.

I’ll let it speak for itself…

And that my friends is how a pedophile was born.

A few takeaways:

having 10 to 14-year-old girls send a photo of themselves to a random address in the back of a comic book so they can be Captain America’s “very special friend” is creepy

getting angry and forceful about it by demanding they “do it today” or else let down America is effed up

Captain America looks way to happy about all this

it appears the dance style of Captain America - The Musical relied heavily on the Irish jig

I think we can now safely say why this never went into production, and why Captain America letting himself be a part of an ill-conceived Broadway sex-trafficking musical was the worst decision he’s ever made.

Meghan Markle joined the royal family for their most famous Christmas tradition

Meghan Markle made her first appearance with the rest of the royals on Christmas Day.

She visited the Church of St Mary Magdalene in Sandringham, Norfolk.

The Queen spends every year at Sandringham with her family.

Meghan Markle has joined the British royals on their best-known Christmas tradition — a festive church service which the whole family attends.

Markle, arm in arm with fiancé Prince Harry, was photographed outside the Church of St Mary Magdalene, just outside the Queen's estate in Sandringham, Norfolk, where she always spends Christmas.

She walked with Prince William and his wife Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge. Also in the party were Prince Charles, who will become Markle's father-in-law when she and Harry marry in May 2018.

It is her first public appearance with other senior royals, and she posed with photographs with the whole group, including the Queen.

Previous generations of princes did not bring their fiancées with them to Sandringham until after they were married, but that precedent was broken this year with Markle's arrival.

1.Blade Runner 2049

If you loved the first Blade Runner movie and have the patience to sit through 2hrs and 45 minutes of nuanced storytelling, welcome to the best sequel ever.

Whatever tragedy this movie is going through at the box-office, it doesn't deserve it.

2.War for the planet of the apes

The perfect ending to the new planet of the apes trilogy. Which I find it to be the best trilogy since Christopher Nolans’ batman trilogy. I honestly didn't think it could be any better than the 2nd one.

Damn dirty apes make better movies than most humans do.

3. Baby driver

It's not the best movie by Edgar Wright. But this definitely is the movie that feels it's a movie by Edgar Wright the most.

Whether it's 8-bit animation swords or robbing banks to the beat of a carefully picked soundtrack, Edgar Wright can make an incredible movie with style over substance.

4.Logan

Simply the best superhero movie since The Dark Knight (2008) in my opinion. It's so unique and different from the typical superhero movies, it doesn't even feel like it's a superhero movie at some times. Though the villains department is a little bit forgettable, it's completely overshadowed by the amazing performances from Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart and Dafne Keen.

5.Spider-man Homecoming

Finally we can leave behind those crappie Amazing Spider-Man movies and the long list of forgettable one-off Marvel villains. Tom Holland and Michael Keaton shines in their respective roles in the best Spider-Man movie since Spider-Man 2 (2004).

6.Wonder Woman

Wonder woman is the much needed breakthrough for the DCEU. And it happened just in the right time. Even though the villains are campy, poorly executed cartoons characters (No really, that weird monster-thing who I'm not going to call Doomsday was better than the frickin God of War. It even managed to survive against the trinity just as long as Ares survived against Diana.), the excellent performances by the two leads and the supporting cast totally make up for it.

P.S - - Even though I hear it's excellent, I haven't watched Dunkirk yet. So I'm not going to write anything about it.

How did the mermaid myth start?

Legends of the half human, half fish creature goes back thousands of years. Now known as mermaids, these creatures were first “sighted” by Arabs and the Greek Pliny in 586 AD. Following this, many medieval sailors have claimed to have seen mermaids, these claims going all the way up to the 1900’s. It was later thought by scientists that these “sightings” were in fact marine creatures such as manatees, as they carry their young the same way as humans.

Lonely sailors at sea saw seals and imagined them beautiful women. Then stories start that someone actually did see a beautiful woman…..in Ireland there are actually people who can shed their seal skins and become humans (male and female) selkies.

"The Sound of Music" actress dies of brain cancer

Heather Menzies-Urich, who is popular for her role in "Sound of Music," has passed away.

Heather Menzies-Urich  dies of cancer

Heather Menzies-Urich, who played Louisa Von Trapp in "The Sound of Music," has died aged 68.

Her death was confirmed by the estate of the musical's creators, Rodgers & Hammerstein.

According to her son Ryan Urich, the actress was diagnosed with brain cancer four weeks ago and passed away on December 24, 2017.

“She was an actress, a ballerina and loved living her life to the fullest,” Urich said to Variety.

“She was not in any pain but, nearly four weeks after her diagnosis of terminal brain cancer, she had enough and took her last breath on this earth at 7:22 pm.”

Heather Menzies-Urich in "The Sound of Music"

The late actress played the mischievous third Von Trapp child Louisa in the 1965 film adaptation of "The Sound of Music."

Her death comes 14 months after the death of Charmian Car, who played Liesl, the eldest Von Trapp daughter.

Born in 1949 in Toronto, Menzies-Urich made her acting debut at the age of 13 on the TV series "My Three Sons."

Her other acting credits included 'Dragnet 1967," "Logan’s Run" and "The Bob Newhart Show."

May her soul rest in peace.

Who is the most manipulative character in Game of Thrones?

Margaery Tyrell would have to be my top choice for this one.

Over the duration of her presence on the show, she has managed to:

Become Renly Baratheon’s queen.

Become Joffrey Baratheon’s queen.

Charm Tommen, winning him over, once again becoming a queen. She got him to do practically whatever she wanted.

Charm the people of King’s Landing. They loved her.

Charm Sansa Stark.

Make the High Sparrow believe she was on his side, although she despised him, and secretly plotted to help her brother escape.

And she learnt from the only the best, Olenna Tyrell, of course!

Damn, I really was rooting for her. Her death was a real pity.

Runners-up: Petyr Baelish, Lord Varys, Tywin Lannister, Olenna Tyrell and Melisandre.

Varys . DOn't doubt it . Read the theory -

So I have been maintaining that Varys is playing the best game out of anyone. He conspired with Illyrio to get Daenerys married to Khal Drogo. Varys conspired with him to get her dragon eggs. Varys conspired with Jorah from the beginning. To me, a lot of her success is owed to Varys.

I was re-watching the trial of Tyrion after Joffrey's assassination, and I recalled a confused feeling I had not remembered since seeing the episode. Before the trial, and after the battle of Blackwater, Varys visited Tyrion and congratulated him. They actually spend a good deal of time developing their friendship. But when Varys is called to the stand to testify, what happens? He testifies against Tyrion.

He gives a damning analysis of Tyrion. And I wondered why he did that, since I heard it. I thought he was somehow doing this to protect himself, the way Bronn later refuses Tyrion's request to be his champion. I was somewhat content with that logic. But as I watched it last night I found new logic that served that scene greater purpose.

He wanted Tyrion to be found guilty. And why? He wanted to give him to Daenerys. He conspired with Jaime to free him. He organised his passage to Daenerys. And he got abducted by whom? Jorah Mormont. A person who conspired with Varys from the very beginning. Deliberate or no? Definitely convenient. I don't think anything accidentally happens to Varys. It's all part of the Spider's web.

"You aren't actually the king if you're just playing a game of chess."

Damn, son.

Varys has Shae in his pocket, this is how Shae comes back to testify as well.

As soon as Tyrion has served Varys' purpose in King's Landing (defeating Stannis) and he's healing from his wounds, Shae tries to convince him to come to Pentos to 'eat, drink, fuck, live' Who lives in Pentos? Illyrio...

Varys and Shae testified against Tyrion when he wouldnt go to Pentos of his own volition in order to make sure he couldn't stay in King's Landing to keep trying to play Westerosi politics.

The answers on this page do a good job of narrowing down the short list, which I think is:

You could also include: Cersei Lannister and Tyrion Lannister, but they sometimes find themselves being out-maneuvered.

I'm confident that this is the short list. If I had to pick, I'd say that Tywin Lannister is thus far (early Season 4) the most effective manipulator, given his repeated political successes.

Apart from Mount Zion movies, John Boyega also watched a lot of Nollywood movies from some of its biggest actors.

Hazard reveals the best between Messi and Ronaldo

Chelsea attacker Eden Hazard is the latest player to join the debate of who is the best between Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.

Messi scored from the penalty spot and assisted one of the three goals scored against Real Madrid on Saturday at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Ronaldo had a decent year all the same despite the El-Clasico defeat, he won the Balon d’Or and FIFA’s the best prize, La Liga and the Champions League.

Messi was able to make some significance despite major accolades eluding him on the European stage and domestic scene. The Argentine broke some records during the El Clasico, having the most goals and having the most assists in the El- Clasico history.

During a FaceTime call with former Chelsea player Jason Cundy, Hazard admitted that Messi is number one

"When you are playing football, you want to play against the best team in the world, against the best player in the world,” the Belgian said.
