Footballers are known for their fashion prowess, but who has the best-dressed players between United and City ahead of the highly anticipated Manchester derby?
Footballers earn a whopping sum on a weekly basis and with their tight schedule in training grounds and matchdays they try to flaunt what they have got at the slightest opportunity off the pitch.
In this article, we will be rating the main protagonists ahead of Super Sunday at Old Trafford. We will be pairing them against one another for a style battle.
Romelu Lukaku Vs. Sergio Aguero
Both United and City look up for these men for goals and outside the football pitch, they are quite as impressive in their fashion display. Aguero favours a more grungy look, channelling
late Nirvana singer Kurt Cobain in a lot of his outfits.
Lukaku compliments his red-stripped Lumberjack shirt with a straight-cut blue jeans. Kudos to the United an for his matching red sneaks.
We score it (out of 10): Lukaku 8 Aguero 7
David De Gea Vs. Ederson
Both men have been in full form this season with a plethora of clean sheets. And outside the beautiful game, they are both in the know with fashion. David loves a smart, casual look, skinny jeans, blazers, tees and trainers.
However, Ederson
likes spending his wages on high-end fashion and not afraid to wear something that little more extravagant.
Scores: De Gea 8 Ederson 8
Jesse Lingard Vs. Leroy Sane
Both United and City starlets, Lingard and Leroy have pulled up an impressive performance at their clubs this season and also shines as bright in the fashion world.
Jesse tries to keep it simple and very casual off the pitch, donning bomber jackets, ripped jeans and white trainers.
However, Leroy is a forward-thinking fashionista who is unapologetic in expressing his style in casual outfits. He normally goes for long Bieber- esque tees, skinny jeans, and Yeezyz , and looks dead-cool with his big hair and jewellry
.
Scores: Lingard 6 Sane 9
Anthony Martial Vs. Raheem Sterling Martial have
been churning out explosive performances at United and his counterpart Sterling is one City's best this season.
In the fashion world, Sterling likes to wear all-black, tees, skinny jeans, trainers, even baseball caps. Martial loves the casual look, and can often be seen walking around Manchester wearing a Nike tracksuit.
Scores: Martial 7 Sterling 8
Ashley Young Vs. Kevin De Bruyne
Both players are up for Premier League Player of the Month for November and undoubtedly, De Bruyne has been one of the League's leading lights this season. His fashion is equally as creative as his play, shoulder-padded blazers, ripped jeans… and he does love a more grungy trainer.
Ashley often wears shirts, leather jackets, favours
a less ripped jean. Controversially, in this look, he’s rocking trainers with no socks…
Scores: Young 6 (loses a mark for no socks) De Bruyne 7
Ander Herrera Vs. David Silva
Both midfielders will have a lot of work to do for their team on Sunday to keep the game balanced.
But Silva, being the elder statesman of the two opts for a mature look — a beaten Belstaff leather jacket, grey scarf and skinny black jeans that show off his slight frame.
Herrara manages to make pushing a pram look
cool, wearing a Moncler jacket that’ll keep him warm during the cold Manchester weather.
Scores: Herrera 7 Silva 8
And total scores are: Man Utd 42 Man City 47 — City wins it comfortably in a landslide.
Sadly, both these fashionistas won’t be taking part in the Manchester derby, but they’re worth a mention. Paul Pogba is suspended for the clash, but he is arguably the most fashionable footballer in the world at the moment.
His pal Benjamin Mendy isn’t afraid of pushing the boundaries of fashion either, seen all around Manchester’s top hotspots in trendy threads.
Look out for these two watching from the stands, cheering their boys on in impressive attire come Sunday
