Victor Moses dropped to the bench in the only change from the team that drew with Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday, with Marcos Alonso taking his place, as Chelsea lost 1-0 to West Ham in the Premier League this afternoon.
The Hammers began the game on the front foot and deservedly took the lead just six minutes in, West Ham striker, Marco Arnautovic combining well with Manuel Lanzini to create a little space for himself which allowed him to curl in a left-footed strike beyond the reach of Thibaut Courtois.
Chelsea probed continuously for a foothold back into the game after the setback, with N'golo Kante going close with a shot which Adrian turned around the post before Alvaro Morata failed to direct his header on goal under pressure from Weinston Reid and Angelo Ogbonna as the first half petered out in plan for the home side by the interval.
Victor Moses came on for Alonso in the 55th minute as Antonio Conte's men tried to force an equaliser with West Ham resiliently holding on and thwarting every chance they created.
Eden Hazard twisted around around the left side of the box before unleashing an effort which was blocked by Pedro Obiang with just 15 minutes remaining.
The Blues eventual profligacy in the final third left them with nothing from the game, with Morata placing his shot wide from close range when it looked he would score before Hazard and Fabregas skied his own strikes as the hosts bagged all three points.
