5 potential replacements for under-fire Antonio Conte, including Arsenal and Manchester United targets

Who could be next Chelsea manager if Conte goes?

It’s not a topic many will have expected to come up so early this season, but the race to be the next Chelsea manager could already be on as doubts grow over Antonio Conte’s future.

The Italian only joined the Blues last season and immediately guided the club to Premier League glory, though he has struggled to replicate that success so far this term.

Chelsea are currently three games without a win and back-to-back defeats in the league put their prospects of retaining the Premier League crown in serious doubt.

Is it time to think about who could be the next Chelsea manager? Here’s a look at a mixture of realistic contenders and dream candidates the fans would welcome to Stamford Bridge…

Mauricio Pochettino

One of the top managers in Europe at the moment, Mauricio Pochettino has worked wonders with Tottenham and has been linked with Manchester United in the recent past.

The Argentine would be a dream appointment for Chelsea, though it seems unlikely they’d be able to lure him away from one of their main rivals at this stage.

Massimiliano Allegri

The next Conte? Massimiliano Allegri could be the latest Italian to take charge of Chelsea and has gone down the same path as Conte by enjoying tremendous success with Juventus.

In just three full seasons in Turin, Allegri has won seven major honours and led the club to two Champions League finals, attracting interest from Arsenal in the process.

Still, would Allegri really want to leave the ultra-dominant Juve for an unstable Chelsea at this moment in time?

Thomas Tuchel

Thomas Tuchel – 2/1
Joachim Low – 6/1
Brendan Rodgers – 8/1
Luis Enrique – 8/1
Massimiliano Allegri – 10/1

Out of work since leaving Borussia Dortmund at the end of last season, Thomas Tuchel has been linked on a number of occasions with the Blues job amid doubts over Conte’s future.

The German tactician impressed with Dortmund, though some doubts remain over his suitability to lead a truly elite club side.

Entertaining as his Dortmund sides were, they only won one trophy and were generally leaky at the back. Is he really up to the level required for Chelsea?

Carlo Ancelotti

Back at Stamford Bridge to watch Chelsea in action against Roma on Wednesday night, Carlo Ancelotti has already been talked up for a return to his former club.

Recently sacked by Bayern Munich, Ancelotti doesn’t look to be at the forefront of the managerial game anymore, and has also been linked with jobs such as Leicester City as a result.

While some Chelsea fans would no doubt love to see this emotional return, it perhaps isn’t the wisest appointment right now, unless perhaps on a caretaker basis until the end of the season.

John Terry

And speaking of emotional returns, what better for Chelsea fans than for Mr Captain, Leader, Legend himself to come back and save them?

Currently at Aston Villa, it remains to be seen if the former England international is ready for management, though him one day taking charge of Chelsea has of course been discussed before.

It’s surely a little soon for John Terry, but we can all hope.
