Cardi B attends Power 105.1’s Powerhouse 2017 at the Barclays Center on Oct. 26, 2017 in Brooklyn, N.Y.
Rumors of a potential collaboration track with Cardi B and Beyoncé sweeped social media this week after engineer Michael Ashby -- who reportedly worked with Cardi on her Billboard Hot 100 chart-topping “Bodak Yellow” single -- posted a photo of a music file including their names and the word “demo” next to it. After issuing an apology to Beyoncé and her fans over the screenshot being released publicly, the mystery still remains as to whether the two music stars will be working together on a song.
Billboard caught up with Cardi at Power 105.1’s Powerhouse concert at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY, Thursday night (Oct. 26), where she shared her side of the story regarding Ashby’s post.
“Harper, I don’t know that man. I don’t know him!” she tells Billboard.
If you recall, Cardi previously met Beyoncé following her performance at the Made In America Festival in Philadelphia in early September. Fans praised the Bronx rapper for getting the opportunity to meet the Lemonade star, and many were hoping the two would later come together to work on music.
“I don’t even know why people are making those speculations,” she says about the potential collaboration rumors. “I don’t know that man.”
If she’s not making magic with Beyoncé, Cardi still has plenty of other artists who are hoping for the chance to work with her. Amid the Bey buzz, Cardi teamed up with Nicki Minaj and Migos for a new track titled "Motor Sport," released Friday (Oct. 27). Plus, singer Kehlani pitched the idea to do a joint project with the “Foreva” entertainer during an interview with Beats 1’s Zane Lowe this week (Oct. 25), which Cardi alluded is already in the works.
“Oh, there’s something…we’ve been working on that,” she says. “Yes, it’s so beautiful.”
Being that the idea of a potential joint project is still fresh, Cardi admits she hasn’t finished her part just yet -- but seems excited to get it all together for the Oakland singer: “Well, I haven’t finished it, but I heard something and I was like, ‘Oh, Kehlani! I love her.' She’s such a sweetie. Definitely.”
