Jurgen Klopp is hopeful that Joel Matip will be fit for Liverpool FC’s Premier League showdown with Chelsea at Anfield on Saturday.
The defender missed the 3-0 victory over Southampton in the Premier League at Anfield on Saturday with a thigh injury and did not travel to Spain for the Champions League clash with Sevilla on Tuesday night.
However, the Liverpool FC manager has now revealed that he is expecting Matip to be available when the Reds host Premier League rivals Chelsea on Merseyside on Saturday evening.
Speaking at his news conference before the clash against Sevilla, Klopp said: “He is in Liverpool and full training, so all good.
“I think there will be a big chance he will be ready for Saturday.
“But there was no chance for this game [against Sevilla]. It was a little bit too quick, but it’s all good.”
Liverpool FC head into their game against Chelsea knowing that a win would move them level on points with the Blues.
It has been something of a stuttering start to the new campaign for Klopp’s side, with the Reds currently 12 points behind leaders Manchester City after 12 games of the new campaign.
However, a win over Chelsea as the hectic festive period looms large would certainly bring about some positivity at Anfield heading towards Christmas.
Liverpool FC finished in fourth place in the Premier League last season under Klopp as they booked their place in the Champions League for this term.
