This got us thinking, what if Halloween was celebrated in Nigeria? What are the things that would happen ?
1. Nigerian mothers won’t let their kids go trick or treating
They didn’t even let us eat in relative’s houses, so you can imagine telling your Nigerian mother that you want to go around the neighbourhood asking for sweets. Her reply is probably going to be something like ‘So that witch, Iya Muniru can poison you? If I see your leg outside!’
2. All the pastors will preach about how it is demonic and make sure they have a vigil on Halloween.
You will trick or treat bible verses and do praise and worship.
3. Plenty people will turn into yams or goats.
Remember how you were warned not to pick sweets on the ground so you won’t turn into a tuber of yam? Well, some people are going to lace sweets with juju so children can turn into yams and be used for money rituals.
4. There will be actual ghosts and spirits roaming the streets.
Nigeria is not America, so there will be masquerades, ghosts and spirits roaming the streets. They won’t be very friendly either.
5. Only the posh kids who live on the Island will be able to go trick or treating.
If you go ‘trick or treating’ in Shitta or Ajegunle, you’ll be lucky to make it home alive o. The area boys will deal with you, collect your phone, wallet, whatever sweets you might have managed to get and take your dignity along with them too.
6. PHCN will take light
It will be extra spooky, but you won’t be able to walk on the streets to trick or treat.
7. People won’t hear you knocking on their gate because their generators are turned on.
You will pend there.
8. Policemen will arrest you for ‘loitering’.
They will say, ‘ Eyss you there, you are arrested for participating in a demonic holiday’ and that’s how you will find yourself in a cell with Scorpion and Mutiu.
9. If you wear a witch costume to go trick or treating, you will be bathed in anointing oil.
10. Some Nigerian girls won’t need special costumes.
