Baron Corbin steals victory to capture first WWE United States Championship

Baron Corbin is finally a champion in WWE, and it was quite a long road to finally get there.

Corbin didn't start his athletic career out as a professional wrestler, as he got his start in College as a NCAA Division II offensive lineman before heading to the National Football League. After going undrafted in the 2009 NFL Draft, Corbin was signed to the Indianapolis Colts.

He was released from the team just a few months later. His career on the gridiron wasn't done there, however, as he then signed with the Arizona Cardinals and remained on the team for a year as a member of the team's practice squad.

Before his run in the NFL Corbin had a decent run as an amateur boxer. He was a two-time winner of the amateur Kansas-Missouri Golden Gloves regional tournament. Corbin also competed in the 2008 Golden Gloves National Tournament of Champions where he defeated Chaen Chess and lost to Andrae Cathron.

After the end of his football career Corbin was signed to the WWE in August of 2012 to a developmental deal in NXT. Corbin would remain in NXT for four years, learning the ropes of the business and perfecting his in-ring ability.

He made his main roster debut at WrestleMania 32 as a participant in the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal, which he won after eliminating "The Big Red Machine" Kane. After a steady build into the main event scene, Corbin's singles career really began to kick off once he won the Money In The Bank briefcase.

Although he was unsuccessful in cashing it in, he was thrust into the United States Championship picture with the likes of AJ Styles and fellow NXT alumni Tye Dillinger. Earlier tonight (Sun. October 8, 2017) Corbin competed in a Triple Threat match for the United States Title against defending champion AJ Styles and Dillinger.

Styles was able to put Dillinger down nicely, however, Corbin would swoop in and toss Styles out of the ring and steal the pinfall victory for himself - taking the United States Title in the process.
