Steven Gerrard believes Liverpool will be relishing their home clash against Manchester United at Anfield on Saturday 14 October given their record against the top four clubs.
Jurgen Klopp’s men have made a disappointing start to the 2017-18 season following a return of 12 points from their opening seven games in the Premier League.
Liverpool have only managed to record one win in their last seven games in all competitions to leave the Reds seven points adrift of current leaders Manchester City.
The Reds lost 5-0 to the Citizens at the Etihad Stadium at the start of September, while Liverpool have dropped points in stalemates with Burnley, Newcastle United and Watford.
Manchester United are level on points with Premier League leaders Manchester City at the top of the table on 19 points following six victories and one stalemate.
The Red Devils have scored 21 goals and have kept two clean sheets to leave Manchester United in a strong position in the league table heading into the international break.
Former Liverpool skipper Gerrard believes Klopp’s men will still relish the chance to take on Manchester United at Anfield despite the Red Devils’ impressive form.
“I cannot wait for those two games because watching Liverpool since Jurgen has come in – they are the games where Liverpool seem to prove everyone wrong and put in top-class performances,” Gerrard told BT Sport.
“I think their record against the top sides is the best so if I was a Liverpool player or the Liverpool manager, those games can’t come quick enough.”
Liverpool had the best record against the top six in the Premier League table last season.
The Reds finished in fourth place in the English top flight last term.
