We Can't Get Over The Fact That These Incredible Movie Stunts Were The Real Deal

If you're like me, you love action movies. There's nothing better than when a movie pulls off a truly incredible stunt that takes your breath away.

But in the age of CGI, more and more stunts are actually just digital effects.

And while CGI can look great, it's just not the same — and these incredible real-life stunts prove it ...

You probably remember the bananas scene in Mad Max: Fury Road where a bunch of guys swing from poles during a fast-paced car chase.

But did you know that the epic stunt used almost no CGI?

According to the film's director, George Miller, pulling off the incredible stunt actually brought "tears to his eyes."

We still can't believe this is real.

In the iconic James Bond film Live and Let Die, 007 pulls off a daring escape by running across the backs of several angry crocodiles.

And the stunt guy really did it!

The crocodiles were provided by a farm in Jamaica, and the stunt was done by the farm's owner, Ross Kananga.

Kananga was actually bitten on the foot during one of his attempts because the crocs had begun to anticipate his leaps!

Yikes!

3. Tom Cruise really scaled the world's tallest building in Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol.

Tom Cruise is much more than an A-list actor; he's also a talented stunt performer.

Naturally, he jumped at the opportunity to scale the world's tallest building in Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol.

Cruise even fired the insurance company so he'd be allowed to perform the stunt.

There's a reason why the stunts in this movie look so stunning — they're real.

That's really Tom Cruise sliding, running, and swinging from the enormous Burj Khalifa in Dubai.

4. That fancy driving in Baby Driver? It was legit.

Edgar Wright's Baby Driver took cinemas by storm this year.

It was impossible not to be charmed by Ansel Elgort's dance moves or the film's razor-sharp editing, but we bet you didn't think those incredible driving stunts were the real deal.

"I had never seen anyone do that stunt before,"said the film's stunt coordinator, Darrin Prescott.

He's talking about a scene in which Baby's car does a 180-degree turn in a narrow alley, just missing a truck as it pulls into the lane.

"He was coming at 70 miles per hour [...] it was all practical," said Prescott.

5. That helicopter scene in Terminator 2: Judgement Day

During the climactic chase scene in what's arguably the best Terminator movie, there's a scene where the T-1000 flies a helicopter underneath a highway overpass.

It wasn't movie magic. The helicopter pilot actually pulled off the daring stunt.

The film's crew actually refused to shoot the stunt because they thought it was too dangerous.

So James Cameron filmed it himself with the help of the camera car driver.

It all turned out fine in the end, and the movie was an instant classic.

6. The window jump in The Bourne Ultimatum

The Jason Bourne movies are known for pulling off fight scenes and stunts that look super realistic.

The Bourne Ultimatum was no different and included a daring scene where Jason leaps across an alley and through a window to save Nicki.

The cameraman had to do the same jump to get that amazing shot.

According to the film's producer, Frank Marshall, there was zero CGI involved!

"It was incredibly exciting because they both had to run and jump at the same time. Even though they’re cabled off, it was pretty spectacular," he said

7. The rooftop motorcycle chase in Skyfall.

The Bond movies are some of the most action-packed films in cinematic history.

So while it would have been a lot easier to film the rooftop motorcycle chase with a green screen, director Sam Mendes opted for the real thing.

The stunt drivers performed the scene without helmets.

And they were racing along rooftops on strips of concrete that were only aroundthree feet wide!

"A lot of the rooftops have old air conditioning units with metal stakes coming up," said stunt double Robbie Maddison. "It definitely was not a place you'd want to ride with no helmet."

8. The bus jump in Speed.

I'll be the first to admit that I love this movie.

Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock are perfect in this incredible flick about a runaway bus that's rigged to explode if its speed drops below 50 mph.

That outrageous bus jump actually happened.

But, of course, it wasn't Sandra Bullock driving.

While the filmmakers did use CGI to erase the section of road, the stunt driver really managed to get the bus to fly over 100 feet through the air for the epic shot.
