AJ Styles.
One of the biggest matches being built up for Survivor Series in a couple of weeks in the Champion vs Champion non-title clash between the Universal Champion Brock Lesnar and the WWE Champion Jinder Mahal.
It was one of the first speculated matches for the pay-per-view on November 19, and will ultimately determine who is the better main champion in the WWE today. It's also rumored to have a special guest referee of John Cena as well, but this is yet to be confirmed by the company.
However, the Survivor Series match itself is now in jeopardy thanks to a match which has been booked by Shane McMahon for next week's SmackDown Live.
The SmackDown Live commissioner said in a tweet that because of Mahal's attack on AJ Styles on this week's show, The Modern Day Maharaja will now have to defend his WWE title against The Phenomenal One on next week's show.
Despite the reason Shane-O-Mac gave, nobody is buying it as the actual reason why Styles is being given a WWE Championship match earlier than expected, as they believe it's just a storyline reason to give him a title match. Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer has speculated three reasons why a WWE title match is taking place on next week's SmackDown.
According to Meltzer, via Ringside News, one reason for the WWE title match could be that Mahal is actually hurt, despite denying it, and they need to get the title off him, meaning Styles would be winning the match on Tuesday night.
Another reason for the championship clash could be to change the participants for Survivor Series match. WWE may be starting to feel that nobody really cares for Lesnar vs Mahal, so they could be putting the title on Styles in order to garner more interest for this Champion vs Champion match.
The final reason for the WWE title match taking place next week on SmackDown could be a reaction to the low viewership the show has been receiving. Therefore, WWE has booked Mahal vs Styles for next week, but they don't actually have any plans of a title change taking place.
Which one of these scenarios will play out remains to be seen, but we should get a better indication once we witness the WWE title match take place next week on SmackDown Live.
