Super Eagles crash on new FIFA Rankings

While many are expecting that the Super Eagles will make an appreciable lift on the monthly FIFA rankings which was released on Thursday, the reverse was the case as the Nigeria national team dropped six places from the number 38th to 44th spot in the world.

The Super Eagles recorded a big 4-0 win and then played out a 1-1 draw against the reigning African champions, Cameroon in the period under review but that nonetheless, it did not help the ratings of Nigeria who are now ranked fifth in Africa behind the quartet of Egypt who are the highest ranked on the continent, Tunisia Senegal, and Congo DR.

While the victory recorded may the Super Eagles may not have helped their course in a big way, it did have a negative effect on the Indomitable Lions who plummeted 10 places to now occupy the 45th spot just behind Nigeria.

Zambia who will be facing Nigeria in the next round of matches in the World Cup qualifying series made a massive leap in the rankings as they moved up 18 steps to 78th spot after the back-to-back win over Alegria.

On their part, the Desert Foxes have dropped to 62nd spot in the world after losing 14 places on the September rankings released on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Germany

have

returned to the summit of the FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking, continuing this year’s ongoing tug-of-war with Brazil for the top spot.

The next FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking will be published on 16 October 2017.
